Turning office-bound systems into reliable hybrid workplaces

Two health-insurance brokerages gained dependable access to phones, files, contracts, and business systems from the office or home.

Environment
Health-insurance brokerages
Location
Canby and Portland, Oregon

The challenge

Dunlap modernized two health-insurance brokerages: a 15-person firm in Canby and a five-person firm in Portland. Both were relying on aging, office-bound technology that made remote work effectively impossible. The environments included 15-year-old computers, locally hosted email, analog telephone systems, and no dependable way to reach business systems from outside the office. Employees could not reliably access files, applications, contracts, or business calls from home. The technology placed unnecessary limits on when and where brokers could serve customers.

The approach

Dunlap created modern hybrid environments that included: - Updated firewall and network infrastructure - Business Wi-Fi - Voice over IP - VPN connectivity - Continued file-server management - Home-office setup for individual employees - Dedicated site-to-site VPN connections between home offices and the primary business environment - Ongoing management of phones, firewalls, VPNs, and file servers The work addressed the complete employee experience, rather than stopping at the office network.

The outcome

Employees gained the ability to work reliably from the office or from home. They can answer business calls, reach company systems, prepare and execute contracts, and communicate with customers without being physically tied to one location.
